Salted Caramel Bars
Ingredients
Unslated butter, 1.5 sticksCaramels, 11 ounces, unwrapped
Baking soda, 3/4 TSP
Salt, 1/2 TSP
Dark brown sugar, 1.75 cups packed
Eggs, 3 large
Vanilla extract, 1 TSP
Heavy cream, 1/4 cup
Flaky sea salt
Parchment paper
Directions
1 - Heat oven to 375˚ Coat a 13x9/2-inch baking pan with cooking spray and line with parchment, leaving a 2-inch overhang on long sides.2 - Combine butter and 14 caramels (about 1/2 cup) in a medium saucepan. Heat over medium-low heat, whisking until caramels soften and start to melt. Meanwhile, whisk flour, baking soda, and salt.
3 - Once caramels are soft, remove from heat and whisk in brown sugar. Whisk in eggs, one at a time, until blended. Whisk in flour mixture and vanilla.
4 - Pour a little less than half the batter into prepared pan and bake 10-12 minutes, until set. Meanwhile, combine remaining caramels with cream in a glass bowl and microwave 1 minute. Stir until smooth.
5 - Once base layer is done, pour caramel mixture over top, followed by the remaining batter. Bake 20 minutes, until set. Remove from oven and sprinkle with sea salt. Cool completely, then cut into bars.
